Welcome to the first e-newsletter for the Australian Jamboree 2013. You are receiving this as you have registered on the AJ2013 website. This newsletter will be sent every three months, and as we draw nearer to the event it will go out more regularly. It is just another tool to help keep everyone informed on the progress of this truly great scouting activity and continue to build excitement as we draw closer to January 2, 2013.

The journey to AJ2013 is long and many, many hands are already involved in preparing for the event, and to make it a truly awesome experience. There is an executive committee for AJ2013 that sees to the programming and coordination of marketing, communications, transport and logistics, as well as all of the administration that comes with an event of this type. But we have our state and international contingent leaders coordinating activities relating to get every tent, every utensil you will eat and cook with, coordinate the numbers coming in from registrations and ensuring the welfare of everyone attending. All these people are key in working towards a fun, exciting and truly amazing time that will be remembered by everyone.

In this first edition we:

  • introduce some of the State and Overseas Contingent Leaders, Camping Ground Leaders
  • provide some images of the JCC meeting held on July 16, and
  • bring an update on the program for the event.

Enjoy the update and keep an eye out in your inbox for edition 2 later this year.

JCC Meeting - Baden Powel Park - Samford QLD

On July 16 - 17, 2011 the Jamboree Consultative Committee (JCC) came together at Baden Powell Park at Samford on the outskirts of Brisbane. This weekend was a chance for the committee to meet others working on AJ2013 and to be provided an overview of what each section of the committee is doing to make this event memoriable to all attending.

Here are a few photos of the commitee working hard over the 2 days.

Hi there from Alan Murray, your ACT Contingent Leader and I am very excited  to be leading the contingent to what is shaping up to be an awesome AJ2013.

I did not have the opportunity to attend a Jamboree as a scout but have attended several Australian and international Jamborees as a scout leader. This is why I do not want you to miss out on this life changing experience.

The team in Queensland have a fun and action packed event planned and is working very hard so we can Dream it and Live it in January 2013. ACT preparations are well underway and very soon we will be making announcements on cost and travel arrangements so keep an eye out on websites and emails. Also remember you can book your troop in for a Jamboree information night or day if that is convenient.

I am looking forward to joining our friends from all over Australia and overseas at the Jamboree. Once again we will be sharing our Contingent Headquarters with the Northern Territory, Tasmania and New Zealand and Scouts from New Zealand will camp with troops from the ACT

Introducing - N.S.W. Contingent Leader - Phil Crutchley

I'm Phil Crutchley and I live in the Illawarra area of NSW.

When I'm not Kanga, State Commissioner, Scouts, in the Scout world, I work as a Supply Logistics Professional in the Local Government sector in what is generally known as the 'real world'. Yes, the 'real world' pays the bills but Scouting is where I get my thrills, and I'm looking forward to getting my next lot of thrills in Maryborough in around 500 days from now. I've been to six Jamborees across various states of Australia, which makes AJ2013 my 7th.

I'm looking forward to what really fulfils me as Contingent Leader:

  • Scouts stretching themselves and growing their confidence,
  • feeling their way in the world,
  • making new friends on the way, and
  • then going home absolutely exhausted!

After all, isn't that what a Jamboree is all about?

The NSW Contingent have set an aspirational target of getting 50% of all eligible NSW Scouts to Maryborough in 2013. That's a whole lot of buses heading north with Scouts ready to Live the Dream!

What an opportunity – not just to lead the NZ contingent but also to be part of a contingent of enthusiastic Kiwi’s heading over the ditch to the Queensland sunshine, to catch up with friends made at Adventure Jam at Mystery Creek, Hamiton, and to make new friends at AJ2013.

I have participated in numerous NZ Jamborees (since Tokoroa 1975) with Troop, Sub Camp and Programme staff and lead the awesome XCITE sub camp at Adventure Jam 2011.

In NZ, my role is the National Scout Leader for SCOUTS NZ, and also the Zone Scout Leader in Waitoru Zone, North West Auckland.

Specific information for the NZ contingent will be posted on the SCOUTS NZ website and will be advertised direct to your Zone Scout Leaders and Group Leaders.

Register your interest, start saving, and enthuse your fellow scouts and leaders to come along too. It’s going to be a great experience.

G’day. I’m delighted to be attending AJ2013 as the Contingent Leader for Queensland. I’ve been to five Jamborees previously which I have enjoyed thoroughly. For most of them I have been a Jamboree Troop Leader.

Outside of the Jamboree my scouting role is the Branch Commissioner for Scouts. Prior to that I was a Scout Leader for may years as well as being involved in abseiling and water activities.

I’m looking forward to seeing Scouts from all over our country and overseas come together for 10 days of non-stop excitement. With it being a home state Jamboree for Queensland it will be an opportunity to welcome and share our lifestyle with others.

Hi! I am looking forward to the Jamboree at Maryborough! I was an Activity Leader at Springfield in 1998, a JTL at Cataract Park in 2001, I ran an offsite activity – Cybertrek - in Adelaide in 2004, was on the Contingent Team at Elmore in 2007 and finally became Contingent Leader in 2010 and now again in 2013.

Chris Wise is my deputy and is very skilful at IT, communications and lots of other things.

Outside Jamboree business, I am the Branch Commissioner for Scout Section and have enjoyed dreaming up exciting camps for Youth Members with my great team.

Soon we’ll have our website full of information for everyone, and later in August we’ll be running Jamboree Roadshows – whizz-bang promotional presentations – in every Scouting District in the State. Look out for your mailout telling you the dates and places!

We’ll also be circulating details of a competition for Youth Members to create designs for our Contingent Shirt. We’d also love to hear from you about what kind of will be cool to wear to show you are from South Australia (both kinds of cool!)

Jamborees are so much fun! They are full-on, very involving and are life-changing events for all participants!

More next time!

 AJ2013 Program Update

The Program team has been working industriously planning; researching and reviewing all the potential activities that AJ2013 could run!

It’s a huge task to coordinate and now they can release some information to ‘whet your appetite’ but they are being a little tricky and only feeding the media snippets so you will have to keep checking out the website to learn more.

We can tell you that there will be Six Onsite Activity Zones and Four Offsite activities, night activities and of course amazing evening entertainment in our custom built Arena!

Some names they are playing around with for on-site activities include:

  • Dream It Live It Make It
  • Dream It Live It Tag It
  • Dream It Live It Climb It
  • Dream It Live It Slip ‘n Slide It

So can you guess what these activities may be? We do know that more than 90 buses will leave each day for off-site activities such as:

  • Dream It Live It Love It (returning to site just in time for lights out!)
  • Dream It Live It Explore It
  • Dream It Live It Soak It
  • Dream It Live It Endure It

Market Day is in preparation, there will be stalls, games, raffles and food. It will include Jambucks and Troop based activities so get your thinking caps on to see how you can raise the most money for your Troop.

The Program team includes previous Jamboree Troop Leaders, Scout Leaders, Venturer Scout Leaders, Group Leaders and Specialist Activity Leaders with a wealth of knowledge about what Scouts like to do at Jamboree.

The four Youth Members at the recent Jamboree Consultative Committee gave the Program team a huge ‘thumbs up’ on the suggested activities!

So are you ready to Dream It Live It at AJ2013?

Thanks to Paul Marnane for is article

 Leaders Activities Update

At AJ2013 Leaders will get an opportunity on their time off to go on Leader Tours of the local areas – these will be “at cost” to Leaders who choose to go on them.

The Program team just wanted to advise that some of the tours they are investigating will require pre-booking and pre-payment – as they are very popular and it is peak tourism season.

They will be providing further information at a later stage regarding these activities so keep your eye peeled to the website to get in fast for these great activities to explore the local area and have a tourist’s view of the beautiful Fraser Coast Region.

Are you ready to Dream It Live It Tour It at AJ2013?

Thanks to Paul Marnane for is article
